What pushes the price up

  • 1 of the 5 offers a free plan, and 3 offer a time-limited trial.
  • 2 of the 5 state a setup, hardware or licence cost on top of the monthly price (the notes below say which).

What to know about each price

  • Bravo Store Systems: Only a starting price is given, with no plan names or limits, and the FAQ says to request a demo to get pricing for your store. The page does not say what the $99 covers or whether hardware is extra.
  • Tower Systems: Optional cloud hosting has a $330 one-time setup fee and $190 a month for the first user.
  • Square for Retail: Card processing fees apply on every plan (1.6% per in-person tap or insert, 2.2% online or keyed in), and hardware is ordered separately with no hardware prices on this page.
  • Shopify (Shopify POS): The page calls POS Pro, at $129 AUD a month per location billed yearly, the upgrade for retail locations, while casual in-person selling at pop-ups and events is included in every plan.
  • Hike POS: Hardware is bought separately, one-off in AUD (Register $1,508, CounterTop $1,109, Handheld $625, HikePay Terminal $366, Reader $114).

What to look for in second hand shops software

Every item is one of a kind with its own cost. StockRoom keeps a count of what you bought, where it is and what it is worth. It is stock control for second hand shops, not pawnbroking software: there are no loans, tickets or police reports.

A tool for second hand shops has to fix these:

  • Every item is unique with its own cost.
  • Record keeping for bought goods is a legal duty.
  • Online and shop stock get out of step.

Questions

About the price

What is the cheapest pawn shop software?

Prices are in the currency each page names and are not ranked across currencies: 2 in A$, from A$42 to A$79 a month; 3 with no currency named. The lowest price is often the plan with the fewest features, so check what each includes. StockRoom is free to 50 products.

Why do prices differ so much?

Mostly who is counted and what is included: per user or per seat, the number of jobs or products, payment processing, and setup.

Does it keep the records I must keep for goods I buy?

No. Rules for second-hand and pawn dealers vary by state, and StockRoom does not yet print a bought-goods register. Check what your state requires.

Can it hold a photo of each item?

Not yet. Photos on items are planned.

Does it link to my online listings?

Not yet. The connections are marked coming.
