How much does software for plumbers, electricians and HVAC cost?

Of the 8 we could price for HVAC contractors, plumbers and electricians: 4 in A$, from A$29 to A$440 a month; 2 in US$, from US$29 to US$59 a month; 2 with no currency named. 3 more show a quote request instead of a price. Ours is not set yet.

Each price is from the company's own pricing page on the date shown, in its own currency; we do not convert. A page we could not read is marked could not read, and a page that asks for a quote is marked quote only. Prices can differ by country.

What pushes the price up

  • 7 of the 11 charge per user, or for extra users, on at least one plan, so the price grows with the team.
  • 3 of the 11 show a quote request instead of a price.
  • 1 of the 11 offers a free plan, and 6 offer a time-limited trial.
  • 1 of the 11 states a setup, hardware or licence cost on top of the monthly price (the notes below say which).

What to know about each price

  • AroFlo: Per-user pricing with a minimum of 3 users, so about $240 a month at the minimum; the page says the rate falls as users are added but gives no figures. A banner offers 50% off setup, and the setup fee itself is not shown.
  • Nexus Service Manager: One configurator on the page: $440 a month for 5 users and the seven base modules, plus a once-off $1,100 setup fee, in Australian dollars including GST.
  • Jobber: Priced by plan and team size, with extra users $29 a month each, and the 1 year commitment option is a 12-month minimum billed monthly. Card payments are listed at 2.9% + 30c.
  • Housecall Pro: Priced per plan with users included (1, 5 or 8) and $35 a month for each extra user on Max; the page says no long-term contracts.
  • Service Fusion: Flat price per plan with unlimited users on every plan, and the page says all plans are month to month with no contract.
  • ServiceTitan: Quote-only: every plan button says Request Pricing, and the page says the pricing is per technician. There is a free demo but no trial or free plan shown.
  • Workiz: Plan prices are given only through a demo request, and card readers are sold separately. The page says prices exclude sales tax and that paying yearly saves $400 or more.
  • FieldEdge: Plan prices are given only through a demo, and the page says there is no free trial. Every plan includes an onboarding specialist, and the page mentions annual memberships with downgrades only at the end of the contract period.

What to look for in HVAC contractors software

Service agreements that renew themselves, equipment history on every site, and installs quoted in one visit.

A tool for HVAC contractors has to fix these:

  • Service agreements renew by memory.
  • Equipment history is in someone's head.
  • Install quotes are slow.

What to look for in plumbers software

Quote in the van, put the parts on the job, and have the invoice out before you leave the street.

A tool for plumbers has to fix these:

  • Quoting after hours.
  • Parts used are never charged.
  • Invoices go out a week late.

What to look for in electricians software

Test sheets, quotes and materials on one phone, not three piles of paper.

A tool for electricians has to fix these:

  • Paper test sheets.
  • Quotes built from memory.
  • Materials are charged back late.

Our price

We have not set a price for ours: there is nothing built to sell yet, and the price will be on the page before anyone pays. What we plan to build: HVAC contractors, plumbers, electricians.

Questions

About the price

What is the cheapest of these?

Prices are in the currency each page names and are not ranked across currencies: 4 in A$, from A$29 to A$440 a month; 2 in US$, from US$29 to US$59 a month; 2 with no currency named. The lowest price is often the plan with the fewest features, so check what each includes.

Why do prices differ so much?

Mostly who is counted and what is included: per user or per seat, the number of jobs or products, payment processing, and setup.

What is a service agreement in software?

A recurring visit with its price, its equipment list and a reminder, so the 6 month service does not depend on memory.

Does it track refrigerant?

A refrigerant log is planned. Check what your licence requires.

What does a plumber need that a general job app does not give?

Planned: compliance paperwork per job, parts taken from the van, and quotes from a price book your suppliers update.

Can it work without signal?

Planned: that is a design goal because roofs and cellars lose signal: the app must keep working and sync after.

What paperwork does it need to cover?

Test and tag sheets, certificates of compliance and a record of what was installed. The forms differ by state, so they would be set up with an electrician who uses them.

Can it quote from my supplier's prices?

That is planned: a price book you import and update.
