What pushes the price up

  • 3 of the 7 we could read show a quote request instead of a price.
  • We found no free plan among the 7 we could read, and 2 offer a time-limited trial.

What to know about each price

  • Azuga: Priced per vehicle per month in three tiers. The page does not state contract length, hardware cost or a free trial; its devices plug into the vehicle's OBD port and the call to action is a demo.
  • Linxup: Hardware is bought up front on short terms ($69 for the plug-in tracker month to month, free on a 3-year contract).
  • AUTOsist: Per-vehicle pricing with a $59 a month minimum on the entry plan, a 5 vehicle minimum on the GPS plans and volume discounts above 100 vehicles. The page does not mention hardware, setup or contract terms.
  • Fleetio: Priced per vehicle per month, by plan, and the page says subscriptions are priced on plan, vehicle count and billing term.
  • Samsara: Quote-only: the pricing page asks how many vehicles or assets you have (1 to 5, 6 to 29, 30 to 499, 500 to 4,999, 5,000+) and the plans page offers only Get pricing and Talk to sales buttons.
  • Geotab: Quote-only: both plans say Get Pricing and the FAQ says to contact sales for your fleet size, with volume discounts available. Hardware is included in the subscription with no upfront device cost or installation fee.
  • ClearPathGPS: The intro says monthly contracts with no long-term commitment and no upfront hardware cost on qualifying plans, without saying which plans qualify. A downloadable pricing sheet is offered but was not opened.

What to look for in fleet managers software

Service and registration dates for every vehicle, and the real cost of each, without buying a tracker for every one.

A tool for fleet managers has to fix these:

  • Services and rego dates are missed.
  • Costs per vehicle are unknown.
  • Trackers cost more than the software.

Our price

We have not set a price for ours: there is nothing built to sell yet, and the price will be on the page before anyone pays. What we plan to build: fleet managers.

Questions

About the price

What is the cheapest fleet management software?

Prices are in the currency each page names and are not ranked across currencies: 1 in US$, at US$6 a month; 3 with no currency named. The lowest price is often the plan with the fewest features, so check what each includes.

Why do prices differ so much?

Mostly who is counted and what is included: per user or per seat, the number of jobs or products, payment processing, and setup.

Does it track vehicles by GPS?

No. It would track service dates, registration, fuel and cost. A tracker would be a separate purchase.

Can drivers do a daily check?

Planned: a check on a phone before each shift.

Can it import fuel cards?

Planned: an import from the card statement.
